Grinder

Today was much more of a grind than I would have expected. Perhaps it was the later night. I did get a thick sleep, I must have been tired out. I again passed on breakfast and planned for an early lunch. I started working early again and got a couple hours of strong productivity logged before I started to feel some hunger and realized that my focus was starting to slip and slide around. I fired up some Campbell’s vegetable soup and a turkey wrap. Solid brunch fare. After a training call for my latest, pending IT migration, I got back into it. Progress was slow and frustrating but I think I finished off half of my project. The other half is going to be tough to start, there are issues with some of the material I have to use and there is no one to fix it but me. I’ll have to teach myself a new computer language to deal with it. Around 1pm my focus again started to wane. I need to do something else to change my outlook. I went and shipped my old phone back to IT, I’ve been getting fully harassed by them to do this. I’ve had a handful of phone over my career and have never been pursured like this to return one. I even have my original Blackberry still on a shelf. They’ve all been properly decomissioned and erased so I’m not sure what IT wants so badly. I talked to some colleagues who got their new device at the same time as me and they aren’t receiving the same special treatment. The annoying part is that if I power it on and go online every 30 days it’s fine. But there is another sect of IT that wants a networking app installed, the app that lets me access internal programs, etc., they say I don’t have it so I’m out of compliance. The thing is, I do have it, and it’s says in the app that it’s working and I’m compliant. So the whole thing was pissing me off. The lies and the email traffic primarily. So I packed up that phone and the case that I bought for it into a discarded perogie box that I reconstructed and wrapped in duct tape and headed out. I also fuelled the truck up, which was near empty from the drive back. It is nice to know that in summer I can make that drive on one tank, winter is a different story. I came back to another email about the phone and I wrote a polite response telling them to cram it up their hoop. I can’t wait for the next problem they have with me. I jumped on a call late to flesh out some stuff with my teammate then closed the loop on another project before stepping away. I don’t have a photo of my second meal because I was on the horn when my take-out arrived and I shovelled it in my gob before I ended the conversation. I was trying to support local and I was quite hungry again. I’m not sure about this no breakfast thing, maybe it takes time to adjust to or maybe I should have weaned off. Aw well. I spent the most of the evening playing Battlefront II, a free game I got from being a PS Plus member now. It is fantastic. Sweet graphics, compelling story and most of all it’s Star Wars. They have all the heroes and villains, old and new. I’m still exploring but so far it’s been fantastic. I’m sure I’ll be digging in further as I get free time.
