Early Bird
After a fairly slow and useless day yesterday I hit the ground running this morning, in a full sprint even. I was up early and got weird with the shower today. I did what I would consider a deep clean. I finally hacked off my foot talons too. I think that freshness that I recovered from the long shower helped put my mind in gear. My sleep definitely helped, otherwise I’d have had to have slipped back to my coffee crutch to ignite my brain. I skipped breakfast again and went straight into work. I started a full hour before I’m slated to start and got right after catching up on a week missed. I had been glancing at some emails during my vacation with the intention that if they weren’t critical I would delete them or file them as I went. I have that capability with the setup on my phone to do things on the fly. I’m glad that I was able to partially curate as I went because there was only a pile of eighty or so emails left to tangle with. After an hour I’d whittled the pile down to twenty two that still needed my attention or were lingering. I did something else in that hour to prepare for the day that I’m not sure others do but I’d suggest they adopt. I went and found the notes from the meetings that I had missed and read up on what transpired. Not every meeting does this but most of my recurring ones do so I was able to face this week’s rendition with some measure of preparedness. I would suggest that if you can, you do this, lest you look like a stupid moron. So dove right into meetings and calls and was in full flight from the start. I clicked off a bunch of items and by the end of the work day I’d took the list of pressing items down and was left with my longer term projects. I still have to wrap these up this week if possible. Before I realized what had happened it was well after quitting time and I’d put in a ten hour day. That used to be commonplace when I worked in the field but it feels like a long one when working in the office, especially with few breaks I take. I had a modest lunch at the regular time and was truly hungry by the time dinner rolled around. Thinking more with my gut than my brain and heart, I made a treat that an eleven year old would yearn for.
After crushing these delicacies that were punctuated by the Pepsi, I raced back up to my office to turn on my other computer. It was time to get my game on. Except nobody was available until later in the evening. That didn’t slow me down, I took care of some other items and looked up some things that were nagging at me. I’ve got to order the part for my bike yet but it’s from a company that I’m not familar with. That breeds hesitation. Eventually my chums joined in the campaign and we had a couple of matches against the AI, including a very satisfying victory before lights out. I was able to re-establish my lead in hours played amongst my friends for this particular game. Bedtime came later than hoped but sleep swiftly followed.
