Sunday Funday
I can safely title this post that knowing that there will be no more fun this day. I will have to work for the remainder of my holiday now, since my boss' boss scheduled a call for first thing tomorrow demanding a bunch of answers that someone should have provided to him long ago. I guess it's part of the growing pains of having strict US oversight for our Canadian group now. All part of the fun and games that is the Hub structure we've adopted. But luckily the day leading up to this point has been very fun. I was at it again with Brown and She. We made plans on our last outing to spend part of today together. Lunch, movie, shopping. The lunch was a the ultra hip, Borealis. They are steadfastly locally focused. They are doing a lot of neat green energy things that seem simple and easy to make themselves carbon neutral. They have even paid consultants to ensure that is true. I am impressed with their dedication on that front. The food is all about local. That's a neat idea and all; normally I'd see it as a marketing thing. They've developed it into a whole niche though and I'm more comfortable with the concept when they don't extract extra dollars while doing it. The items were good and reasonably priced for the most part. There was still an air of pretension in some menu items but that is name of the game when you cater to foodies. It was not cheap to foot the bill but we did order a strong amount for three persons. The movie was the next piece of the puzzle. We went to see the followup to Goon, it was titled Goon: Last of the Enforcers. It was quite similar to original in many respects. I don't think it will be as success as the original but many sequels aren't. The important part is that I walked out with a smile on my lips that lingered for an hour afterwards. It changed the momentum of my day, a sign of a good movie for me personally. I'll watch it again, know that. The third act of our fun came with a visit to the Nike Factory Store near the theatre. Tugboat needed new running shoes, ones that didn't sacrifice a toenail with each use. For this to work, access to bigger sizes was required. We knew this store had up to size 15 so it should do the trick. I had to try about six pairs of shoes varying in size between 14 and 15 but I found the ones that worked for me. Right size, right look, right price. I'm excited, it's been many long years since I had running shoes that fit. I left the last pair with a homeless man in Dublin along with my last five Tennents tall cans. I hope he enjoyed them as much as I did. So good meal, good movie, good shoes, and good company, what more could I ask for?! Maybe to not have to work Sunday evening, but that would be too much!
