Knowledge Transferred

I just got back from a huge meeting that we have every year. It's the Eastern Canada Knowledge Transfer meeting. Basically my team presents the results from our studies to the other groups who will be using the information in the field. We consider them our customers. I only had but three things to present this year, which I think it the lowest yet for me. I also had everything done in short order and got assistance from the US on my statistics. That made life much easier. I wonder if that's what it's like for my American counterparts. They just get help and put the story together over the weekend. Well, maybe over the weekend was just my touch. The meeting isn't just an opportunity for our teams to share learnings, it's also a time for team building and bonding. The Monday night we went for dinner near the hotel and I got lobster risotto. This dish has some significance for me. When the Chef went out East he brought me back a lobster for looking after his wascally wabbit. He asked how I wanted it cooked and I said for my birthday I'd like lobster risotto. There is a good chance I'm mixing up two stories there but in the end he boiled it. It was friggin good with the garlic butter he made but I wasn't feeling fulfilled. We joked back and forth about the lobster risotto for years. In January I broke the curse and ordered it. This week we returned and I ordered the same dish. It was too expensive but so good, and rich. Much like the buyer would have to be if not getting it through work. The second night we went to a BBQ place. Come to think of it, those were the two places we went to in January. I guess my boss didn't feel like branching out with choosing spots. The third night, the other team in attendance took us to a Sens game. Unexpectedly we had a luxury box. It was awesome and the game was top notch. Very exciting stuff. I managed to choke down two beers during the game and we caught our shuttle back to the hotel. I stayed out for the night cap that night. I didn't have anything pressing the next morning. Just had to get back to my truck. I rode with a colleague to and from the meeting and we had great visit both ways. It's that kind of team building stuff that makes a cohesive unit that will go to bat for each other. I think the human element is very under-estimated in today's corporate world. Anyways, without getting deep, it was a busy and engaging first half of the week. I met up with the Chef near my house for supper upon my return as he and She were staying with me, to avoid fumes caused by spray-foaming happening in their dwelling. We had a short visit together and all shut it down.
