Tent-Venture Season Two - Episode 2

I’m posting the following journey undertaken by my friend Theodore Complete on their behalf.

Tent-Venture - S02E02

Day 1 (1/29)

This time it was roughly 2.5 days from seed to emergence.  The seed shell came off pretty easily this time which was nice.

The tiny hygrometer helps with a soil level conditions check. Everything seems in order and there’s lots of moisture in the soil so I topped up the humidifier and left it be until noon.

At noon I check it out again. Looks to have made some progress, but it was being constrained by some of the remaining seed membrane. I carefully got that off so it can spread its wings. I also dribbled a tiny bit of water around the exterior edge of the container but not the center, maybe a thimble worth, to encourage it to reach out for moisture.

By the evening check in it was looking more proud.

Day 2

It has shot up overnight from around 1 inch to 2. The soil surrounding the jiffy pod center was very dry so I lightly sprayed the outside edge of the container taking care to avoid the middle. Although I tried to put as little as possible , it looked like I overdid it a bit. Hopefully the roots will reach out for this delicious water.

The final container has been prepping for a little while now. I'm using another 5 gallon fabric bag for this grow, I thought the results were suitable for me on the last showing so I'll see if I can match or do better this time. I've added bone and bloodmeal to the soil mix from last season but added more of the soil amendment powder, and no manure because it was frozen. I’ve wet it all down and I’m letting it dry to help even everything out in the soil.

Day 3 (1/31)

It’s getting pretty leggy so I turned up the light from around 8000 lux to 12000 to prevent stretching. These aren’t exact figures because lux only captures the white spectrum, but close enough for me.

Day 4 (2/1)

The true leaves are really growing now.  I inched the light up to 15000 as well.

Day 7 (2/4)

I pushed the dial on the light up to 19000. It seems to be responding well so far.  The growth isn’t as strong as Sadie the Euphoria CBD strain from season 1 but it’s going well regardless.

Day 9 (2/6)

I took a photo yesterday but deleted it accidentally. Oh well, here’s today. It’s trucking on well and positively responding to the light increase so far.

Day 10 (2/7)

I top dressed a little bit of that stinky would amendment and sprayed it with a bit of water.

Day 12 (2/9)

Although not as large as the Euphoria plant Sadie at this many days in, I think it’s doing well.  I turned the light to max, reading lux at 30k now.

Day 13 (2/10)

It’s time to transplant. I’m doing it.

This involves a few steps because I have to install the irrigation system at the same time.

I filled the reservoir and marked litre measurements on the side, something I should have done ages ago.

I then fully soaked the medium in the 5 gallon pot for transplant. This will set the target for the watering devices.  I put the plant in a bit deeper to hide some of the stalk.

IMG_2902.JPG

After adding the plant and watering carrots I moved it into the tent and hooked up / bled the water line and set the moisture sensors up. I also had to reduce the light a tad to get to 30k lux since it sits higher than before.

And we’re off to the races! I’m guessing about a week of transplant adjustment, but who knows. Some people transplant a few times up to the final pot but I don’t care, this worked before. There’s enough moisture to last a few days so now it just had to recoup and get strong. It may show some overwatering symptoms in the short term due to the moist medium, but that will sort itself out. I hope my soil isn’t too nutrient rich.

The seedling stage is the most stressful for me.
