Tent-Venture Season Two - Episode 1

I’m posting the following journey undertaken by my friend Theodore Complete on their behalf.

Tent-venture - Season 2 Episode 1

Planting Day 1 (Sunday Jan 17)

This is going to be a Blue Cheese strain from Quebec Cannabis Seeds.

My entire demeanour around this grow is different from the previous attempts. I feel like I’ve learned a lot of good lessons and I have a pretty good handle on what I need to do in order to be successful. I have my environmental parameters more dialled in than my last grows. I have everything automated to the point that I shouldn’t need to be very hands on, and hopefully that will help with yields.

I’m going to do more aggressive plant training this grow as well. Where I simply bent the stalk the last time, I plan to cut and more aggressively shape the growth of the plant this time around in a process called manifolding.

Today I planted the seed and now I’ll let nature do it’s thing. My record for germination has been really good so far so I’m not going to worry too much. Seed, moist soil, and cling wrap under a light and sitting on a warming pad. I’ll see if anything sprouts by mid-week.

I made some modifications to the grow area and moved the tent into a less trafficked area with added shelving for all the gear and power supplies. All in all I’m happy with the use of the space and I think I’ve used the lessons from my previous flailing trials to dial in parameters right from the get-go which should help things.

Plant Day 3

I dug down a bit and found the little taproot sticking out. Looks like it’s game on!

And in another fortunate turn of events, I found a seed when going through some of Sadie’s buds today! Free seed!

Plant Day 5  (Thursday)

A bit slow to sprout, but who knows how long this seed has been in storage. I’m just glad it’s viable. It’s peeking through this morning, maybe I’ll see it start to stand proud today or tomorrow.

Plant Day 6 (Friday) / Day 1

Standing up today.. sorta.. so it’s day 1. This one feels sickly.

IMG_2721.JPG

I moved to the tent and set the humidity to 65% and temp to 26 C.  The light was set to around 7500 lux reading for now. The heater and humidifier both point away from the seedling to avoid blasting it. I also purchased some air filter fabric and taped pieces over the passive air intakes on the tent to keep particulates out a bit better.

Day 3 (Sunday Jan 24)

This seedling looks to have some issues and may not make it. It flopped over on me to I took some pipe cleaner and made a bit of a splint for it’s feeble stalk. I then put a ziploc cover over to keep the humidity up a bit more.  The tiny true leaves are poking out a bit. I was really hoping not to start over so here’s hoping she pulls through.

Day 4 (Monday)

Still slow going and doesn’t look great. But I put a pepper plant I had wintering inside in with it for company.

Day 5 (Tuesday)

Well shit, this is unfortunate. The little fella is toast. It’s all black and shrivelled up. Maybe the pepper plant killed it? Malicious pepper murder mystery?

IMG_2755.JPG

Well, time to start over! I plucked the fuck, dumped the dirt, and carried on.

I took a Rapid Rooter puck this time and soaked it in water to expand it.

I then placed the seed in and put the plug into a little starter pot.

IMG_2763.JPG

I gently surrounded this with soil, dampened the top of the whole thing, and put it on the warming mat with a ziploc over it.

What a day. Season 2 is starting off more challenging than past attempts. I have 3 more attempts at this strain of this one doesn’t work out, but I’m hoping it’s a one-off.
