Satisifying Saturday
I was up before 8am despite the last start to sleep and planned to have a leisurely breakfast before getting back to my binge of the Wire. I painstakingly prepared a couple of breakfast bullets for the first time in almost a week and then I decided to go outside and smell the roses, so to speak. My flowers have excelled as my level of care has declined. I’ve moved to watering them every two days rather than daily as the temperatures normalize and we get the odd fit of rain. They are roaring back now. The pot with the touch of red in particular has bounced back from near dead to full speed. It does the soul good to see. The petnunias never really slowed down and have continued to impress me with their loveliness and their ease of care.
After taking a few minutes to enjoy the ambiance it was back to the grind of watching one of the greatest television shows ever developed. I’m enjoying it immensely, having forgotten most of the detail from the first time I consumed it. Speaking of consumption, I only stopped to have a go at some food. I fired some chicken breasts into the Instant Pot to cook and I ate a small salad that was about to turn. While the chicken was finishing up I cooked off a couple pans of bacon for later. Not realizing that I’d only eaten a small salad I washed up and went to play some C&C with Ron for an hour. We got our redemption from the last time we played. He’s working on developing a men’s health website so I gave him some startup knowledge for that before we parted ways. Next step was to keep cooking. I sparked up some rice in the Instant Pot using a one third to two thirds mixture of beef to chicken stock as the liquid. That was a bold choice but I didn’t want to waste the old stock. I used jasmine rice as I am wont to do. It came out fluffy and perfect. I also cooked up a batch of chicken balls in the oven, the batter is not great. It is salty, crumbly and absorbs nothing. I suppose it is designed to be deep fried but that’s not my style. While I was cooking up these tasty treats I made myself a couple of pogos as a snack to tide me over. The main event was rice and balls in a bowl with some of that sauce I’ve been going on about in recent weeks. It was t much to look at but had a nice amount of flavour and spice. The balls were definitely the weak link.
The remainder of the evening was spent completing my binge of the Wire season one. It was as good as I remembered and there was so much more than I thought. I keep thinking I have a deep understanding this time through but I think I just forgot details. It wasn’t a perfect drop off again but it was much better than previous nights.
