The Departure

Today is the day my parent depart and I’ve joked that my real vacation begins. Definitely the less busy portion of the week, or maybe just less structured. I’ve talked before how I strive under structure and it would appear that a lot more got accomplished during the days with a set schedule. The day started early with cooking. I got up with the sun and made a nice, full breakfast meal for my parents. Bacon to lube the pan, then perogies and eggs. There was even toast and jam which is impressive because I don’t usually have a toaster out. I bought one about six years ago and only bring it out when my parents visit for a couple days every two years. Once they were full of food and everyone had done everything they needed to in the bathroom we did a double check through the whole house to make sure they didn’t forget anything and they were gone. They left my driveway at half past seven and arrived in theirs around two bells. They made excellent time despite two stops. They didn’t have to worry about traffic through the Smoke by taking the 407 and heading the opposite direction up the 400. Smart moves.

With them gone I started to reset the house. Bedding and towels went into the laundry. The kitchen got a strong once over. Blankets and pillows were replaced to their traditional spots. It was pretty easy since we didn’t spend that much time in the Harbour this week. Next task was to get the Musings up. I’d written skeleton versions with the appropriate photos but needed to put some more effort in. They are huge posts. The other thing I did at the same time was hope for rain. I really needed rain to come along to help the yard work that was done the previous evening. It was slow in coming and lighter than expected but eventually there were a couple of bouts of rain. An amount that allowed me not to have to water the grass. They say there is more coming on the weekend which will be nice and again will keep me from having to water the grass during it’s stressful period. The last thing I took on before a much needed nap was to finish the unnamed project in the basement. You can see clearly in the photo below what was done but I’ll add some description. A couple weeks ago I refilled the stock tank/brine tank (depending where you go) with softener salt and some water blew out the overflow hole on to the floor. Based on the concentric rings of dark circles and salt circles, I’d say this happened before. I’m not a fan of dumping water all over the floor so I decided to setup a system. There is no drain close so this is what I’ve got. It took us a couple of tries to get the right hose to fit, some confusion over inside diameter vs outside diameter. The Big T talked me into the wrong size of pex, convincing me that we could heat it up with a torch and get it to fit, not the case. So I got this more expensive roll of twenty feet of vinyl tubing. I have about eighteen and half feet extra now. But I’m hoping that this will help. It was partially inspired by Theodore Complete’s project.
