Glass Right Empty

As part of being in my home office and my no more cigars but wild enjoyment of fire I have started to burn more scented candles. Sometimes it can be fun to walk back in after lunch or a bio break and get punched in the nose by a nice scent different than the normal neutral. It is not about covering up any smells but more about creating a new one. Also driving this habit is that my sister has been burning a different scent everyday and wanted others in the family to participate in her game. I only had a couple but now I’m up to five or so. My apple flavoured one from Glade is all used up. I really let it get down to the limit. As I was examining the remnants, I got to thinking that it would make a small whisky glass. Maybe even a whiskey glass, depending on what I had around. The ‘e’ of course referring to whisky from USA or Ireland in case you weren’t aware of the distinction. If that was going to be possible then I’d have to figure out a way to get the wax out. It was a pretty gross and grimey supply left on various parts of the glass.

I was able to quickly find a video showing three ways on how to clean wax out of a glass candle holder. I opted for the boiling water method but I did think the freezing method was interesting if you were going right to drinking from there. I boiled some water up in a pot I’ve never used before with an element on the stove I’m not sure I’ve ever used before. It was very difficult to turn on for sure. There were also some disconcerting smells happening. The wax bubbles up to the surface and I dumped the water out and repeated until I was confident I’d gotten the wax out. But as you can see below, the wick holder was still there, feeling like it was part of the glass.

I had made a couple tweets about it and got a reply that someone had boiled the whole glass to loosen the glue holding the wick holder, interesting. Into the pot it went and after a few minutes in a rolling boil I was able to pry it loose. There were some gobs of glue left so I kept it boiling and tried to scrape the glue away. After allowing the glass to cool and then several vigourous washes I could see some glue remained. I happened to be making dinner at this point and was having a cool, crisp, refreshing Pepsi so I dumped a slosh in. We’ve all seen those videos of Coca-cola dissolving a tooth or destroying a toilet right? I figured it could probably handle some stubborn glue. I’ll find out in the morning.

The rest of the day was mostly wasted. I played a bit of C&C and I read my book, finishing it right before ten in the evening. Two nights in a row where I finished something right before bed by accident. As for the above photo, it was a cool effect made by the blinds in the morning. It would be a sweet pattern to use if I ever find myself in a Braveheart situation. Let me know what you think in the comments. I guess I did make a tasty little lunch of potato and bacon soup while stretching a chicken breast across two wraps with cheese and Cholula. The last thing I’ll mention is that the T has got the Corvette on the road. His last parts came in last week and he’s got someone putting them in for him. I’m hoping I will get back up there this August and can go for a ride.
