Looking Back
Today I’m going to take a moment to look back and appreciate where I’ve recently been. I’m going to walk it back a few months and think about what I had been doing, feeling and thinking. I won’t compare the past and the present, that is a fool’s errand, but it’s nice to think back. Generally when we reminisce about the past, especially more than a few weeks, we focus mostly on the happy memories. I won’t speak for all of mankind on this but for me, it’s generally the pleasant memories that boil to the surface. Probably a trick of the mind to avoid unpleasant feelings. Fortunately for me, I’ve made a habit of trying to capture some of the middle ground while it’s happening. I’ll often get a picture or video of the regular parts of life. If it’s a high point I try to stay in the moment. Low points are survived, not enjoyed. So I find myself focused on the average experience. I’ve been posting my compilations on my YouTube channel for a while now. Here is the latest edition, please enjoy.
It’s important to visit the past but make sure you don’t get hung up there. I like to visit every couple of months on a little mental vacation, it’s usually a very pleasant experience. Or in the least, a cathartic one. I make sure I return to the present and keep an eye on the future. Following that advice, let me relate the day. I had meetings. I ate the last of split pea soup. Then I had more meetings. That’s about the size of it. I did put a larger dollop of that sauce on the breakfast bullets, it made a positive impact, will repeat. After the workday concluded I cooked a batch of chicken burgers for tomorrow. I made a tasty meal of a pre-made frozen dinner and the last chicken breast I’d been reserving. I mixed it up with some bacon ranch dressing and barely had enough time to take a photo before inhaling it. It even had vegetables!
