Stormy Reveal
The last couple of days I’ve been hinting at some news. I can finally reveal my story. I’ve talked about upgrading my internet service for awhile. In able for that to happen, I needed to upgrade my hardware. I’ve been using the $300 combo unit I got when I setup my internet back in 2013. Apparently things have advanced since then. I decided I would buy the modem from the ISP and I would seek out my own router. That is just what I did. I spent three or so hours on Sunday digging around the internet and found a great deal on a very nice unit. It is well beyond what I require, which hopefully leaves room for future growth. I made sure that the modem I ordered was upgradable to the maximum level of service the ISP can offer as well. I’m limiting my bottle necks. There is a longer story around me getting it setup but I’ve told a few people already and don’t feel like talking about it again. In the end, the switch-over for the modem happened in an hour or so. The service switch is supposed to happen in the next 48h, I’ll be keeping an eye on the speed test. The router also has an app that lets you manage how it works. You can customize what type of data gets priority and other things I’ll never use. I need to figure out a better home for the router but the rig is impressive.
In less nerdy news, I also got groceries this morning. It was much closer to a normal shop than I’ve had in months. The store was fully stocked, they were doing inventory so that is likely a factor. I was in and out quickly. I wore my mask and so did most of the other patrons. In my limited experience, it appears that Walmart gets more caution and care than other establishments. I had only one call today so I was able to check a few other items off the list. I had to spent over an hour getting the internet running too. Then at the end of the day, just before quittin’ time, the Chef popped by. We had a socially distant beer I. The garage, I measure six feet from my chair and put a chair for him. We had a nice catchup but it was short as he had to get back on the road to do his last delivery. I ate too many Cool Ranch chips, they’re back, before playing some Command & Conquer Remastered with Theodore Complete. It was really fun. I will lose hours of my life to that game. The internet speed was noticeably faster too, just from the hardware upgrades with the same service. My evening ending watching a ferocious thunderstorm that ripped through. The front was powerful and intense, I even had a tornado warning! I’m finishing up this post listening to the gentle rain that was hiding behind the front. We got a huge share of the rain all in a short time, might not be ideal. I’d say today was a pretty cool day. I wonder what is lurking for tomorrow that will balance things out.
