No Internet = No Fun
I got a taste of what quarantine would have been like 25 years ago today. Let me start from the beginning before I shed light on that. It is not an easy thing to jump back into work after a three day weekend. I should have taken four days. Unfortunately, my quiet part of the year hasn’t been quiet due to this global pandemic so taking last Friday off wasn’t possible. And as it turned out, very not practical either. So I’m coming into the day while not being highly motivated to discover that I had a call for most of the day. These all day meetings seem to be en Vogue the last couple of weeks. It was an engaging meeting so I didn’t mind that much, in this case. The unrecognized trouble was that I had to jump out of that call to do another one for ninety minutes in the middle of the day. Because of time zone differences, my lunch hour got consumed by these two meetings. So I had to run on water alone. During this auxiliary meeting, the internet kicked off and would t come back on. I scrambled and got my iPad humming to use as my hotspot. After the pop out call I rejoined they long one. It was originally slated to end early afternoon but ran right to quitting time for me. During a break later in the day I was able to secure a piece of my second batch of Rice Crispy square to slow my pending headache. I survived the eight hour plus call. Priority one was to eat and I did that by again wrapping up some ground beef with some cheese slices. I’m going to have to find fiber soon, meat and cheese isn’t sustainable. Priority two was to get the internet operating again. I had previously tried unplugging and plugging in. I tried a corded connection. I ran trouble shooting on two devices. It boiled down to a call to my Internet Service Provider (ISP). I got my account number, called them up, navigated their automated menu, and settled in to wait. I ended up being on hold for nearly an hour. The same grating song playing repeatedly. Eventually I checked their hours of operation and despite boasting a 24h support line, the office closed at six. I gave up shortly after six. They do claim they were experiencing longer than average wait times but that seemed excessive. I decided to burn some cellular data instead and try to live like we did pre-internet. I read my book for a spell but went back and streamed a bit of YouTube before going to bed around half nine. Hopefully the internet returns tomorrow.
