Weekly Reset
I’m not sure if you can call something happening twice in a row a routine, I know you can’t call it a winning streak, as per Major League 2 logic. But I’m in this situation where the last two Sundays I sort of went ham on cooking. I have the raw ingredients and rather than make coherent meals, it seems my preference is to make piles of the components then mix and match to taste. Last week I worked through my red lentil gruel pile, meatball horde, chicken breasts, and rice mountain over the course of three or four days. It was great, no thought required, just grab literal handfuls of each part and microwave for two minutes and you have a new and exciting meal. Removing the thought element was key and I really enjoyed that I was eating home cooked meals everyday without a bunch of effort. To attempt to relive that joy I went ahead and rebuilt those stockpiles. I made some changes this time, I made a big pile of rotini pasta, a big pile of white instant rice, meatballs, and chicken breasts.
It also helps to fill out a fridge that is starting to look more and more empty. You can see that I went pretty heavy on the mix in the last couple of shopping excursions. Not pictured are a bunch of cans of Sprite. I’ve drank about as many of those doused in rum as I have without. The two remaining eggs are perched preciously there, awaiting replenishment. The one item that seems to have built up from low usage is wraps. I think I’ll try and wrap up some of these components as the week wears on. If I come up with anything interesting or beautiful I’ll be sure to share.
