End of the Real Thing
Well, it's a gloomy Sunday outside but for me it's a great day. We finished our planting season yesterday. The worst day was the last day but it's in the books. I have lots of other things to catch up on this coming week but for now I can revel in being done the worst of it. Having only one person who is trained to trailer is a pretty major hindrance as it turns out. I could have all these catch up jobs in the bank already if I had a second equipment mover on the team. Oh, that phrase sounds nerdish. Sounds like I'm talking about a video game with different style units that you can strategically deploy to reach some end goal. I'd say that it's not really like that, but in reality I'd be nice to deploy such a team member to help get things done. I've reverted back in time to six years ago when I was wishing that I could clone myself. Then I managed to convince one of my team to stay on, summer after summer, until he was as good as a clone, if not having all the experience and knowledge I possess. He was able to operate independently and with my trust, which made a massive difference. He's now covering a maternity leave for a year, doing the same job as me. I help him out and answer his questions but he's doing a nice job running that other farm. I guess that reflects well on me, since I was the one that trained him, well not fully, he's got a good bit of life experience compiled on his own. Oops, another video game language warning should be issued there. So anyways, even with only me to move stuff, we've managed to get done faster than last year and with more sites. An impressive feat I suppose. We'll see how this wrap-up goes. The little jobs always seem to take the longest. I'm hoping to have it all knocked away in the next two weeks, then I'm not sure what happens with a full team. It's been so long, I guess I'll have the ability to make everything pretty. Maybe someday I'll post some pictures and videos. Until then, I'm going to hibernate in my basement.
