Basement Renovations

Well, it's finally happening! The contractor has begun the contract, a few days in now. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the progress so far. On the first day he arrived late and started late. In only a few hours though he had constructed the walls and started framing in the bulkheads. He told me before he left that even he was impressed with his progress that day. Day two was more of the same. All of the structural work was completed for now. He had to work at another job today but the plumber is slated to be here tomorrow to get everything roughed in and ready for final touches. The electrician is slated for the day after that. There is supposed to be an inspection by both the electrician union and also the city later on that day. That means that if all goes well, we could get started on the drywall early next week. That is the longest part of the job. I have to get some softener salt for my water softener that is supposed to get hooked up. I also needed to go pick out some laminate flooring and tile for the bathroom. I forgot the salt when I was out and about but that's easy to find. I went to Lowe's and Home Depot and picked my top candidate flooring at each. Tile will just be something neutral and affordable, I have to pay for that since it wasn't included in the contract. I don't know how much I should be spending on the laminate, it's unclear in the contract. Since I was across the street anyways, I managed to arrange to meet the Chef at Lonestar for dinner. It was good to catch up with him. I happened to be in the area because I had to travel to meet a potential candidate for my summer positions. She is good, I hope that her references pan out. Otherwise, work is steady and moving slowly towards making sense. I think I'm going to have to wait on other teams before I can do the heavy lifting for my own job this time of the year but I don't have much choice and will keep myself busy preparing as much as possible otherwise until it's game on. So I'm pretty excited about the work that is done so far and looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. I'll try and keep everyone posted. I have been snapping some pictures of it for those who follow me.
