I'm Huge Down South

Ummmm, phrasing, are we doing that still? Okay, without the obvious innuendo, I am a big deal down south. By down south I mean South America. And by big deal, I mean two people would love to have me on their teams. How do I know that? Because after visiting with them, they both emailed their respective bosses and suggested that I move there. One was from Brazil in 2011, so maybe a stretch. The other was just this week! An old colleague from grad school who is originally from Argentina, at least I'm pretty sure he's originally from there, in back in Canada to finish up some things around his PhD and asked if I had some free time to spend discussing how I do my job in this hemisphere compared to how they are doing things. It was a long and very interesting day. We compared a lot of notes while visiting several of my sites to give him a feel for how we run trials. We found many similarities with how things work and what growers are concerned with on both continents. We also had a great philosophical discussion about how things work in Brazil versus Argentina. It was awesome to learn about the workings of another part of the world. I always find those opportunities rewarding. It sounds like he got as much out of it as I did too which is even better. I don't want to bore anybody with the specifics of it all but I do find it all very interesting and I guess I'm just passionate about what I do and why. I want ramble on but I did want to stop in to end the drought. I was pretty down on the weekend and so didn't do much of anything. I'm not sure why. I turned down a couple of opportunities to travel around the area. It's a bit of a bummer through and through. I'm going to be travelling this next weekend for a wedding so hopefully that perks me up. Work is slowing to a manageable pace now so I can start to pick up the pieces of my life that #plant17 smashed apart. I'll keep you somewhat in the loop!
