Weed Science and Shopping
The headline about sums up my week. I could leave it at that but I will elaborate a bit more on these happenings. So we can start with Weed Science since it's really what took up the bulk of my week. Firstly, the 'weed' in Weed Science is not referring to marijuana. So if you're drawn in just for that you can set this aside. It's actually about weeds, specifically those in production agriculture in Ontario. I learned a tremendous amount during this course. It is offered on reading week by two professors and meant as a refresher for folks like me who have been in the industry long enough to forget the teachings of their undergrad. I am now refreshed but more than that, I also learned a lot of things that I was never taught previously. We reviewed all the major corn and soybean herbicides used in our part of the world. We learned about their strengths, weaknesses and molecular structure. I now also have an amazing binder of reference material that will be invaluable in my future years. I have a digital copy as well in case I lose the hard copy. It was exciting to revel in all that expertise and knowledge that was unleashed upon the lucky thirty people who were admitted to the course. It started on Family Day at noon and ended Friday at noon so it was really four jam-packed days of learning. The meals were excellent too. There isn't really anything I disliked about the whole thing. I would endorse it to anyone in the industry. So that's explained. Now the shopping. I planned to visit Cheese after the course, since I was in his city, but had to kill some time. I spent the lion's share of that time in a Canadian Tire parking lot making phone calls but ventured down the street after awhile to seek out the clothing store I like to shop at. It's not a chain and specializes in clothing to fit my carriage, primarily shirts in Tall sizes. Something that is simply not found elsewhere. I was able to pickup three new shirts, all on sale, for the low sounding price of $91. One of the shirts I got was marked at $115. This harkens back to the podcast episode Cheese and I did about bargains and deals and how things are marked at a ridiculous price and "marked down" to a sale price. It's a whole thing, I suggest you go back and have a listen to that episode.
