The Greasy Spoon
I'm but halfway through my first day of officially not working and I've had a delightful start to it! I have been making a mental list of errands to cover off today for some time now. I decided to spontaneously add a couple of stops to the trip as I circuitously made my way. The first stop I added is really the feature of this post. I have driven by the Heritage Pancake House literally 1000's of times as its on the way to work. I've never had the gumption to stop in. Until today. I've been lacking a strong breakfast spot in town to bring people. I tried to make it Dean Michael's Griddlehouse but it let me down three times in a row and caused Admiral Bonesaw to avoid visiting for three years! So today I started the hunt for a new spot. I've had breakfast at the local truck stop and that was exactly as expected. Today was not. Today was better! I don't see what I ordered on their online menu (which has amazing musical accompaniment) but I asked for the Triple Pork Eggs Benedict. I enjoy the Eggs Benedict as something different for breakfast. It's something that I don't have the know how or patience to tackle on my own so I rely on greasy spoon joints to help me out. Despite the poor waitress being overrun today due to some folks apparently not showing up for work or being late it was an excellent experience. When you walk in the place smells like a million darts were hacked in there over the years but that disappears once you tie into the coffee that all but greets you at the table. The portion with my meal was all I could handle, which I greatly appreciate as well. My three pork options were bacon and ham on the actual Benedict and a side of bacon. I never fully trust sausage at breakfast after the Shawzy incident in Lansing, MI. Since it was triple, they squeezed an extra egg onto the two halves of the English muffin. If I had a complaint, which in today's society seem requisite to have for every experience, I'd say that I was not asked to what consistency I'd like the eggs cooked. They were yolky while I generally trend to medium. I didn't mind though because it all mixed together into a delicious brew to dip my potatoes in. It was so appetizing that I couldn't even slow myself enough to stop and take a picture for you, you'll have to come see it and me some day. I even slammed the tomato slices and spinach on the side for garnish. This was a great opening volley in the search for the Tugboat's favourite greasy spoon. I think there are a couple of other options to have at in January and I'm excited to sample them.
