Thuper Thursday

I mean super Thursday but it lacks the alliteration that makes title whimsical. As I outlined in another post, we weren't going to be able to do anything outside on this day. It was the start of the month so at work we had our admin stuff to cover off. Monthly inspections, mileage reporting, housekeeping inspections, etc. A whole day to cover it off was excessive. We also had scheduled an information night at the U of G for students interested in learning more about the jobs we are hiring for this summer. This was in lieu of attending the annual OAC career fair that we've been a part of for the last dozen or more years. Our HR department is based in the US and is incapable of prioritizing anything Canadian, which is a shame and an outrage. We acted on our own to set this up. I only helped in the setup and organizing but I was to play the lead role in the presentations. We also were instructed by our CEO to "celebrate ourselves." Despite having our budgets cut again we still managed to post record profits again for the greedy shareholders. This was done on the backs of the grunts taking on more and more for less pay and with less support. It's happening in all businesses as shareholders demand more. Sadly it's become a fact of life as the rich get richer. Anyways, no time to whine, we were told by our direct manager to take our teams out for lunch and don't go off the spending policy in doing so. So we met up with another farm's team and had a lunch together. We ended up going for an Indian buffet. It was a whole lot of food. I very much enjoyed the meal. Afterwards we went to their farm and both sides took turns presenting safety training topics, another box checked for the month. That immediately preceded the evening student event. I acted as the emcee and delivered the initial presentation. I am told it was well received. I called upon a couple of current employees to speak and also put a couple more that were around but back in school on the spot. Everyone did a fine job. Other functions presented their positions as well and we had an open and candid discussion with the interested parties afterward. I checked my applicants the next day and they had tripled. I'm happy with how thuper the entire day was.
