More Rain
I'm seeing a pattern now. The only days I actually have time to sit and write on here are days that it rained. Or is raining I suppose, because all night and continuing today it's raining. The intensity is varying but it hasn't stopped. I'm scared that we're going to get into this rainy season, dry season routine like other places in the world where maybe agriculture is a little more difficult. I guess we'll see as time trudges on. I'll just give you hints as to what I've been doing with my time. We finished corn. It's all off, the required tillage was done too. So I could be done for the year, but that would be irresponsible. We still have some field work to finish up and I want to get all of the equipment put away carefully and properly for winter. I already mowed all of the corn stalks on the farm so we just need to plug away with the plow and it'll be done. We invented a couple of projects to improve the equipment as well that can be done to extend my guy's contract until December. Personally, I'll have to switch over to full data summary mode this week. The week after is our pre-meeting meeting to hone our summaries together as an extremely critical smaller group before we share everything company wide. I'll have to wade back into the wacky world of statistics, most of which I've forgotten by this time of the year and have to re-teach myself the basics to run the analysis and make sure I'm able to interpret the results. I don't love that part, let me tell you. I already got a whiff of it this past week while I was in St Louis at the mothership to participate in the NA Corn Advancement meetings as a representative of my nation. I spent time with my sister, her husband and their dog. It was a nice visit and the meeting ended up better than I expected. I came home and spent the week tying up loose ends around that process. Now that the crazy, hectic field season is over I'm turning that energy to the house. I've been here 5 years and there are some easy projects that should have been done 4 years ago that I'm starting to think I should be tackling. I need to paint a couple of rooms, fix a toilet, that type of stuff. My bed upgrade in the guest room is complete, well, almost, I need a bed skirt but I want to pick the paint first before I get the skirt. I think that is the adult way of doing it. I guess time will tell, like it will with the weather.
