Sibling Birthday
Today is my sister's birthday. The middle sister. She lives a long distance from me. She also works for the same company as me. I used our corporate IM to wish her a happy birthday. I also used Snap chat. I used two mediums. But in terms of a gift I find myself lacking so far. I haven't gotten her anything. Yet! I think I'll find something online and have it shipped to her address but paid for by my money. That should suffice right. She's over thirty now, so what do you get someone over thirty? If I knew, then I'd have a better answer for the requests I get. Experiences not stuff seems to be her motif over the last couple of year but I don't live near her so I don't know the cool or hip stuff to do in terms of experience. The other hiccup with that idea is if you buy tickets to something specific, there could be alternative plans already in place, thereby rendering your gift not just moot but also inconvenient. While that leads the recipient to not forgot your gift, it's not for the right reasons. I know that she collects specific figurines, maybe I'll roll the dice and try and get her an obscure one that she doesn't already possess. She would appreciate that but there is the chance factor of getting one that is inappropriate. I'll have to do some research perhaps. The other issue with the unexpected mailed gift is that there is little opportunity for a card. I'm not really looking to send one that far so perhaps the double shot of birthday greetings will have to suffice on that front. There, I think I solved the issue by spilling my thoughts on to the blank white canvas of this page. I'm glad I could share the thought process and minutia of this problem with you. Keep coming back, maybe there will something useful in the future. Although you should have gleaned from this that I tend towards thoughtful gifts, not just a gift card to something generic like a department store or iTunes. Isn't it the thought that counts anyways? If so, is this enough to count for a birthday gift in your thirties? Probably not, you're right.
