April is for Fools

It's Friday. It's late in the day. My work week is over. There was no hijinx today. Nothing directed at me anyways. I am sure there were plenty of pranks up for grabs all over the place but in my little slice of reality there was nothing forthcoming. So that can be construed a couple of ways. One is that all my friends have matured and grown up. Since we know that not to be true, since we've met my friends. I have to surmise then the alternative, and in this case (I'm feeling a bit pitiful), the only alternative, is that they've forgotten about me. Well forgotten is likely too misleading of a term, maybe a bit too dramatic as well. You are probably picturing me standing in the rain, no not me, a small boy of ten or eleven, shaggier hair than he should have, non intentional holes in his pants, a too big jacket that he clearly inherited from somewhere, standing at a bus stop in the dusk of the day during an absolute downpour. Thunderclaps and lightning punctuate the sky above but here under this metal sign jutting out from a chipped old telephone pole the boy is getting soaked; tired, sad and alone; waiting for a bus that will never come. No mother to pick him up. Now that's dramatic. I'm not going for that, so not forgotten, maybe just overlooked. I've managed to brown myself out of several groups of friends now. No effort was applied to achieve that result, simply alienating by means of lack of contact. It happens so fast, work too much, don't reach out at the holidays and suddenly you're a ghost, someone that used to be known. It happens to the best of us they say. I'm fine with that. It isn't the first year I wasn't pranked. I actually prefer it, being pranked generally ends in some inconvenience. So if I don't actually want to be pranked then what am I worried about. I'm not sure. Maybe just to be remembered. But I bet you're feeling worry for that poor boy in the rain right? I hope you are, because if you're worried about me then you just walked into a very weak prank. Boooom, still got it. Look it up suckers. I'm off to play my farm game until I pass out. Another win for the Tugboat!
