Grizzly Game Recap - Winter Game 5
The Grizzlies faced off against a familiar opponent tonight, the Performance Mazda Men. This was the first ever squad to defeat the Grizz during a perfect start to the fall season. Would this be a repeat of the early days for the Grizz? One thing was for sure, this was going to be a hard fought match. As it turned out, it was. A very strong technical game from the Grizz and a bit more bounce in their step saw them cruise to another win. This time not easy though, both the Grizz and PMM were missing some key pieces. In fact, the Grizz had only one spare man up front and one for D. They even had to call in a scab forward to fill out the roster. This would have a great impact. One of the key pieces missing for the Grizz was Admiral Bonesaw. He had picked up an illness during one of his coastal adventures and was forced to sit this one out. Luckily for the Grizz, they were able to come out ahead in the goaltending battle. This also was no small feat considering the stand-in replacement for the PMM was the starting goalie for the Canadian Women's National Ball Hockey Team. I didn't know it was a thing either. The scab got things rolling with two goals in the first frame. He went ahead and perfected his night in the second by sealing the natural hat trick. The Grizz captain earned a penalty shot from his spot on the D corps and capitalized on the opportunity. The next in the queue to put one in was the Beer Guy. His streak stayed intact when he launched a rocket of a one-timer off a cross gym pass from one of the Grizz D. It was in off the post and left no doubt. Towards the end of the stanza, the PMM had a glorious chance when a rebound spiraled upward and was knocked in with a glove. The ref called it a goal on the floor but by happenstance, the league organizer happened to be standing in perfect position to witness the entire play and over-ruled the ref (where was he during last fall's finals?) on the floor and that is how the game entered the final frame, 5-0 Grizz. It was more of the same in the last period, Sheraz, playing D this night, fired a missle toward the goal. In a wild attempt to tip it in, the Beer Guy totally whiffed and took the ball in the upper groin region, not a direct hit but a glancing blow. The ball ricocheted into the net and the Beer Guy got credit for his second. The seventh goal came when Beer Guy saw Johnny screaming in off the point and feathered a pass into his path, he picked it up and buried it past the keeper. The only drama after that was if PMM would solve the strong Grizz keeper who had to this point stood on his head to preserve his goose egg. The PMM spoiled the fun by knocking a rebound past him with just five minutes to go. It was the toughest 7-1 win the Grizz ever won and the entire team was exhausted after this valiant effort. Only two weeks left in the regular season now. Keep coming back to see if they can take the top seed into the playoffs.
