Grizzly Game Recap - Winter Game 7
The second meeting of the Grizz and the Dekes of Hazzard ended much differently than their first meeting. This was a shocking outcome for a number of reasons. First, the Grizz were hamstrung by a short bench. Also missing their leading scorer The Beer Guy on this night as he celebrated his one year wedding anniversary with his wife Frawnse. Second, he wasn't the only one missing from the bench this night. The Grizz could only boast one spare up front and one on the back end. But that didn't stop the Grizz from exploding out of the gate with a big first period. The lead was five after the first frame lead by a hat trick from Admiral Bonesaw. The Dekes hit several posts throughout the game and couple that with such a deficit and their play got decidedly chippy and desperate. These led to several penalties and even a yellow card for one player who got too "Villnerdy" along the boards. The Grizz captain got caught up in the emotion and almost got himself tossed for arguing with the official. The Grizz kept things going into the second stanza which was a more evenly played period. The score stood at 8-2 heading into the third. At this point the Grizz went into a defensive shell and only sent one man deep to slow the efforts of the Dekes. They managed to keep the play to the outside walls for most of the rest of the game. The Dekes tried to counter this strategy by putting two men on the posts and firing shots from the outside hoping for a rebound goal or a scramble but the Grizz defenders and goalie kept things at bay. The Grizz managed to tack on a ninth goal in the third to finish the match with a 9-2 victory over their frustrated and embarrassed rivals.
This was their seventh win out of seven played regular season games. They sit alone on the top of the table with fourteen points while the next club down has a four and three record with eight points. It is unclear but there are no more games showing on the league website, perhaps the complicated and convoluted playoffs will start soon. In which case, the Grizz will be the unquestioned favourites to return to the finals and this time take the crown home.
