Retrospective Recap #1
I'll start with the weekend that I think was the one that started off this no posting fad. This was the trip to the Ottawa Valley and then on to Quebec. I'll try to hit the high points. I took off from work, for work type reasons midday on the Friday. I had a lovely drive across some interesting countryside to reach my destination. Minor slowdowns in the GTA of course but what else could be expected from the teeming hellhole. I was later than expected and was able to shift my own plans to accommodate everyone else. It turned into a relaxed but fairly tight timeline. I met up with Dutchie and Admiral Bonesaw at their place of business and drifted over to look at their new house. My parents met us there. We had a nice walk-through of their partially built mansion. I suspect it will be upwards of 5200 square feet at a cost of nearly $773k by their time it is complete. I've been admonished several times for my aggressive estimates but that must only mean that I'm correct and not that I'm giving them grief right? I think I'm dead on, balls accurate on that one. It's an industry term. We stopped at a local pub for grub before moving on to our accommodations for the evening. The next morning I was off like a shot. I toured a corn plot, gave a guy some chairs I was bringing to him and then set off to discover Beau's Oktoberfest. I was ushered in by friends for free and given a mitt full of free drink coupons. Life is good when you know insiders. So I drank. My friends had responsibilities until later in the day so I drank alone. Not exactly alone, estimates have upwards of ten thousand people on the site. So I wandered and enjoyed the sites and sounds of a large, boisterous festival. Toward the dinner hour, I was corralled into the area that they were working in. That is where I ran into an old friend from the Northlands. I will call her something arbitrary, how about Cabbages. So Cabbages and I exchanged information as what we had was out of date and met up at the main stage. We got really into Hannah Georgas. Cabbages is an actual fan, I just got swept up in the occasion, but it was awesome live. We went back to join the Beer Guy, Brown and She and eventually we had to leave for sleep. That was the weekend aspect. I left Sunday and started tracking down and touring corn plots in the area. I got four under my belt on that day before finding my hotel on the other side of Montreal. I spent the next three days in corn. All day, each day, corn. Looking at the same sets of products in different places to evaluate them. It was more fun that I am making it sound. I left Wednesday and drove home hurriedly, arriving around my normal bedtime. All in all, a successful week on the road, well almost a full week. You get it.
