Grizzly Game Recap - Winter Game 3
The Grizz were in action again this week. This time facing off against the league organizer's squad. This team was far better prepared than the Grizz. They must have known they were in for a real battle. Reports have them huddled before the game examining a whiteboard. Planning strategy to take on the Grizz squad which must be garnering a fearsome reputation around the league. The Beer Guy was lucky to make it to the game at all. He more or less raced a deer on the big highway. Luckily the deer swung off the highway rather than trying to pinch his car off the road. He was even on time this week!
The game started off with the Grizz peppering their goalie with shots. Raining down shot after shot and he stood tall in the first. The Grizz tender wasn't heavily pressured and handled everything that was put his way which lead to the period ending in a scoreless draw. This would not be the case in the second stanza. Early on in the period a point shot was tipped in by the Grizz forward on a very nice play. The goose eggs were no more. Shortly after that goal, Beer Guy and Admiral Bonesaw moved the ball around and combined to set up a pinching D man who buried one top corner. That seemed to work well so later in the period the two brothers teamed up again. This time the Beer Guy broke in alone for a short break off the side and tried to deke the steadfast goalie. A poke check ruined that plan but the ball squirted harmlessly away into the slot. Admiral Bonesaw weaseled in behind the D and knocked that rebound into the empty net after the Beer Guy left the goalie down and out. It was 3-0 at this point but after a Grizz D slammed a rebound in from the slot while pinching it was 4-0 and the second period came to a close. Another item of note in the second were two missed penalty shots by the Grizz as that element of their game has not yet improved. Both were due to the infamous too many men penalty. The Grizz were not used to such a luxurious lead and let their foot off the gas. That didn't mean they could score in cruise control! A another D pinch led to a five hole penetration, making it 5-0 early in the third. Their opponents hadn't given up yet. They broke the shutout on a nice backdoor tap in, the culmination of a lovely passing play. The score was now 5-1. A clear advantage for the Grizz as time began to wind down. With five minutes remaining the Beer Guy's goal scoring streak was on the line when something happened. The Grizz hit their opponent's goalie in the head with a hard shot and he dropped. It is suspected that he got hit in the eye. The game could have been called off at that point but he decided he would forge ahead. A brave face. The next shift the Beer Guy and Admiral Bonesaw got loose on a two on one. The Admiral slid it across and the streak was saved! That is the way it ended, 6-1 for the Grizz. So they rattle off their third straight win to start the season and two of them were not close. Tune in next week, Admiral Bonesaw won't be there and the Beer Guy's attendance is in question as well.
