Balanced Weekend

I was able to walk the line this weekend. I managed to get some good progress from a professional standpoint but I also had a lot of fun in the mean time. Friday was a particularly unexpected highlight. I will explain it. I got an out of the blue text from my old friend Big Willy. He asked if I would be interested in going to the Leaf game. Of course I was. So I agreed and we set up the ride and the finer points of getting into the smoke. I grabbed cash in the morning and brought an extra jersey for him. When I met him he was dressed nicer that I would have guessed but he's always dressed better than me so I thought nothing of it. We got in his car and headed into the jungle. After taking roughly three times as long as it should to get there, he revealed that the tickets were the work ones, so they were good. His company is a major sponsor so they were actually really good. Like three rows from the ice good. And when your seats are that good, that means you have lounge access. I had never been in the swanky platinum lounges of the ACC. I now know why the seats are empty for half a period. It was pretty amazing. I felt a little like a fish out of water in those high class surrounds but I managed. Traffic was worse afterwards, the Jays and a concert finished around the same time as the Leaf loss so it was a nightmare. It took us three hours to get back to his place and another hour for me to get home. I didn't set my head down to rest until 2am!

Saturday was a sleep in day. I hadn't planned on that so had to scramble some things around. One job I wanted to do Sunday is pushed into this week. I pushed the Saturday work to Sunday as well. I had to clean my house, get groceries and do laundry. I needed that domestic day to reset the world inside the house. It had been a month since I dedicated any time to the household duties. I'm glad I was able to take the time to get it all set up for the next couple of months of harvest and data analysis. My dinner guests arrived around 4:30pm and we started with some dim sum appys and beers. Then on to the main course as the other guests arrived. I had been marinating center cut pork chops for 18 hours in a Jamaican jerk spice. I BBQ'd those and complimented them with a spicy Mexican rice dish. Those were joined by delightfully fresh and light zucchini sticks that were heated on the BBQ. Dessert was a delectable banana cake with cream cheese icing. I lapped that up dangerously fast. Next came the cocktail course. I had a few helpings from there. Big T Island Breezers were delicious. After watching our fav show, Dating Naked: Playing for Keeps. We hit the hay.

We made breakfast samidges this morning with a special cheese that Two Glasses of Wine made at work. It is experimental and super-duper delicious. I will let her reveal it in the comments. It was subtle overall but really enhanced the flavour profile of the meal. We watched a program that I needed to see then went for a nice walk down by the river. It was spirited and lovely. 2GW departed after this and left Cheese to entertain me. We recorded a fresh conversation and I went to drop him at the bus. The bus driver must have been in a hurry, because he left 15 minutes early. We actually met him leaving as we pulled up to the station. It was so far in advance we thought there would be another. Not the case. I drove Cheese home so he could get to his shift and then I headed to my job. I put in almost four hours of looking at soybeans before coming home and frantically packing for my flight tomorrow. I have to wake up well before the sun. I should have left today but I would have missed the adventure. Aw well. Stay tuned for details about my trip.
