Day Dissolves into Night
Today was a mixed bag. I left work early today, mid afternoon in fact. But that was only so I could take a three hour call in my home office where it is quieter, more comfortable and the internet is more reliable. The call actually went the distance and then some. So I broke up my work day into field and home office chunks. It made it feel like I worked two full days. This was not ideal. I was still a skotch tired from the enjoyment of last night and couple that with a very early rise this morning and the eyelids were getting heavy by the time quitting time lurched from the dusky shroud falling over my small world. I ate some num-nums and that seemed to perk my spirit up some. I should have had a belt of Vagabond Vodka, proudly brought to you by Bohemian Spirits. But by the time I got work done and ran some stats for another project and did a data pull for another guy making a request and scheduled a call for next week I didn't have any mix left to have a drink. I don't do vodka straight comrade. So the moral of the story is, when we did the fall tillage earlier in the week we found some treasures buried deep in the earth. I have been meaning to share these photos ever since. So I will shut up and let you feast on these visual spectacles, maybe while wearing visual spectacles.
Some context for the reader. While plowing, Gerbs struck a rock which broke our shear pin. He tried to remove the rock but found it to be too large so he got the loader. He found that it wasn't merely one rock that had caused this issue but several. And beneath the giant stones lay the very solid remnants of an old corner post. Whoever installed it wasn't taking chances. On top of five large stones guarding it, there were brace boards nailed with pieces of iron in a crisscross pattern. This post was not meant to be pulled. We dug a mighty pit and got to the bottom of the matter before lifting it out of the dirt like Excalibur. This was a rare find in our part of the world. That post could have been down there for decades. And would have so remained had we not chanced upon one of it's defender stones. Personally I'm just glad it wasn't an old coffin.
