Grizzly Game Recap - Playoffs Round One
In a strange and convoluted playoff style called "revolver" the Grizz took the first step one their journey up the mountain to glory. They faced the team that finished ahead of them in the regular season standings, the Dekes of Hazzard. The Dekes and Grizz were very close in the standings, tied for points, with only goal differential separating them out. These two closely matched squads faced off in the first revolver round and when the dusted settled as the final horn resonated through the very hot air of the gym, the Dekes were upset, both literally and metaphorically.
The Grizz started out strong. With Rek out of the picture now for good due to foreseen circumstances, the Grizz wanted to start with a bang and they did that. The Dekes are no slouches and quickly answered back. The two top tier teams trudged to a tie after the first. The Grizz came out strong in the second stanza rattling off a couple of quick markers. First a long shot found it's way into the twine tent then the Beer Guy took a pass from Adirmal Bonesaw behind the goal and calmly but authoritatively buried a backhander. The Dekes' demeanor started to slip at this point. Some unsportsmanlike behaviour began to leak through into the match as frustration started to boil over. With the score at 3-1 Grizz, Admiral Bonesaw took his turn lighting the lamp. The Grizz enjoyed a 4-1 lead but not for long. The Dekes over the remainder of the second and first half of the third managed to battle all the way back to even the score at fours. It was a twine seeking missile off the tape of a Grizz defender at the point that broke the deadlock. An insurance marker was tallied later in the game and the score at the gun was 6-4. Not a sound victory but a victory nonetheless. The playoffs continue next week, stay tuned!
