Grizzly Game Recap - Game 10
Game 10. The final game of the regular season for the Grizz. Playing Performance Mazda Men for the league lead essentially. The final battle of the regular season had a lot on the line. Top seed going into the playoffs. Bragging rights. The only team to defeat the full Grizz squad were not worried and as it turned out, they didn't need to be off the hop. The Grizz fell behind early, dropping to a 2-0 deficit. But this was not just any team the PMM were facing off against. This was the scrappy team of destiny that had taken the league by storm this season. The Grizz would never roll over and die, just like their namesake wouldn't. This upstart team of hardworking talents began to battle back. And when I say battle, I do mean it. The refs were letting these two teams battle it out. Two titans exchanging blows. The grind it out, gritty game is something the Grizz are quite familiar with. In the third as the dust began to settle, the Grizz found themselves tied at three goals apiece. The combination of Admiral Bonesaw and the Beer Guy had provided all the offence. And all the offences were supplied by Rek. Reports having him knocking over several PMM players. But this was not to be his destiny on this night. He would not be known as a fearless wrecking ball. Taking a pass in the slot from his trusted and anonymous linemate simply known as Johnny, Rek fired a tight, focused laser beam of a shot into the upper regions of the net. The Grizz were ahead by a goal with very little time on the clock. But since I have not declared their victory yet, dear reader you know that a turn is forthcoming. With less than a minute to play the Grizz captain gained possession behind his own goal. He had Admiral Bonesaw and the Beer Guy ahead of him. Both able ball handlers waiting for the nugget to while out the clock. His attempt to get the biscuit up to them was ill-fated. There are no words to describe the low feeling slowly taking hold of my gut currently as I recount this tale of woe. He fired the ball off his own goalkeeper and into his own net. With only seconds to play he had cost his team first place. The Grizz finished the game 4-4 in what felt like an overwhelming loss. This resulted in PMM winning the top seed and the regular season. We can only hope that the Grizz will redeem themselves in the playoffs by bringing home the championship. Anything short of that now would be considered a disappointment. Rek will be leaving the team now so the climb to glory has become even more daunting. Below is a computer generated reenactment of the final goal.
