Split Hump
I’ll keep it brief, we all have things to do. I was up and done my MSF by half six. I was rolling before seven bells. I got fuel and my McBreakfast and started south, straight south to see a sandy corn site. I’d invited my boss and Brack to join me. I took notes on one set and we walked another. Most of our time was spent discussing broader issues. It had been over a full year since we three had last been together in person. Allegedly it was the first time my boss had used his truck for business all year. That’s wild. Brack had an appointment and my boss and I had to rush home to be on a call at one. He had a longer drive so we left early for me. I have one more corn spot I should see next week then I’m done in the field. I might be after that site the way things usually go. I had time for some. Campbell’s Chunky Chicken and Sausage Gumbo soup and a box of Stouffer’s Bistro Crustini Chicken Parmesan paninis. I cleaned it up then cleaned myself up, with a collared shirt and brushed hair before the meeting. It was very interesting with unexpected reactions. I had another one I’d called later in the day. It went more awkwardly. I got my answers but I didn’t feel great about how it went. Anyways, I worked on my grid files for the last of the day and then slipped down to the kitchen to make dinner. I didn’t have the right lighting for a proper photo but I made a cardboard pizza. I added some shredded mozzarella and finished it with Cholula hot sauce. It was the four meat kind from the Great Value brand. I was pleasantly surprised, it was very tasty.
I was done with the dishes well in advance of when I needed to be and I had time to do some computing. I wanted to order a few birthday gifts and things for me. The gifts got done and mine didn’t. For over a year you’ve been hearing about me making my usual breakfast samidge. A key element of that dish are the sausage patties. I’ve been getting them from Sysco through a program called Sysco at Home. They did this for the pandemic because they wanted to stay in business while restaurants and schools were shuttered. Now that things are improving they’re taking it away from me. I need those patties! The only other source is Walmart and they never have them in stock. I guess I’m going back to hope and prayer. Luncheon meat is the alternative, blah!
So with a heavy heart, I got prepared for D&D. It was the first game after a week hiatus due to travel of the GM. All our preparations were made and it was time to enter the big danger zone. It gave him a week with his new laptop to prepare it all for us too. He’s very exciting which probably means we’re in big trouble. We didn’t get very far into it before the two hours was up, this will take weeks to traverse. It’s going to be a free flowing crawl. I’ve never done one so this should be interesting.
As usual, I wasn’t in the market to sleep immediately after. I had visions dancing in my head and had to let the adrenaline leak out of my blood. It was shortly after eleven when I finally found my rest phase.
