Rain Day
It rained on and off through the night. Everything was thoroughly soggy by morning. I wasn’t in a big hurry to get out of bed. I went back to sleep for a bit and then focused on MSF for too long. Eventually I emerged just as the Big T was wrapping up the traditional Sunday morning breakfast meal. Some mildly charred perogies. He was kind enough to keep his dirty onion ones in a separate pan for my benefit. I think after thirty some years he’s gathered that I hate the things. They had bought some artisinal bread especially for me. I didn’t realize until it was almost time to leave but I did make up a nice little egg and cheese samidge to go along with the perogies and bacon. Tasty start to the day.
There would be no outside work today. I thought about inspiring the troops to take on a project like cleaning the garage or shed but that didn’t fit the vibe at all. After eating Mother settled into her book and Big T got his. They both quietly read. I was surprised but figured that it was Sunday and they are active enough all week. It didn’t sit well with me that the barn and seed mill are in a state of disarray but I followed their lead. I went back to my room and had another nap after passing out watching YouTube. I woke up and did more MSF before doing some research and reading up on some products I might be thinking of buying or adding to my Christmas list. I crawled out of my hole around half eleven and they were both still reading. Mother had gone back to bed with her audiobook this time and Big T hadn’t moved. I stirred up trouble and soon we were eating leftovers for lunch. We used the bread buns and crammed them full of awesome stuff. Some of the lemonade from August was still kicking around so I tucked into it. Very refreshing meal for the gang.
The afternoon was also very low key. At one point I went upstairs and we got talking and Mother recalled that part of my birthday cake was still in the freezer. I brought it up and we all had a piece and it was decided that I’d better figure a way to take some home with me. It is my cake afterall. It was still good months later, moist even. Hahahaha!
Around four I got myself properly cleaned up and dressed to go for dinner. We were going down the road to my cousin’s place for a proper Thankskilling meal. It was primarily their branch of the family. I felt a bit like we were interlopers on their family event and went as far as to mention that to my parents. I was shushed and we went anyways. It would have been weirder not to. It was a classic spread for our family, about three times as much food as you’d need. I was too frazzled to take a picture of my meal. There was a lot going on and I was just happy to find a spot on the couch and wolf down my meal. Even though it was family it took a while before I felt comfortable in such a crowd. It’s been so long since I’ve been around people, took time for that to come back to me. Odd the way we react to stuff sometimes. Either way, the food was amazing. I had some apple pie for dessert but apparently the pumpkin cheesecake was electric. I chatted with a couple members of our fantasy hockey pool who were there, the draft is tomorrow night so we excitedly shared some perspectives. They obviously put significantly more time, thought and effort into it than I do. But I’m the reigning champion of the league so I guess I’ll just keep to my process. Ha! We came home around seven and I put on Ted Lasso without asking. We’d made it part way through season two when I was there in the summer and I wanted to keep going. We didn’t get to the end because we were all falling asleep by ten. I also needed to get some rest, big day ahead of me tomorrow. Bed came next and sleep was quick to follow.
