Time God
So, I was thinking about this before breakfast the other day but got side tracked by life before I could record my thoughts. If I was better incentivized I might have stopped and taken fifteen minutes to flesh out a post but alas, here we are. Me trying to recall my genius days later. Sadly I had something similar happen this morning as well, which I’ve completely forgotten. I guess it’s true, you are most creative first thing in the morning. So, with that preamble digested I’ll start by admitting that this is not my theory so if you want blood, look elsewhere, as I say, I was only thinking about it decided to share my pontifications in this medium lest someone find some fleck of intrigue within. People often concern themselves with the meaning of life and pursue the mystery of the why, their purpose on this live spinning space rock surrounded by oblivion. Religion stems from these concerns, attempts to explain the physical and spiritual world. We here at TheTugboat.ca don’t like to engage too deeply in religious or political debate but as a thought exercise, what if we had it wrong about God? I’m not deigning to follow a path trod by individuals like Deepak Chopra et al. that explains that we are God, no, I’m thinking in a different style of abstract vein. What if time was our God? I first heard about this theory from now disgraced comedian TJ Miller. If you reflect on the definition of what religion says God is, time fits. Of course my frame of reference is Christianity so you’ll have to indulge me in adopting that viewpoint. Time is never ending, omnipotent, and objective. Time created the world and man (maybe not in his imagine). Time heals all wounds could be akin to the forgiveness of God. Not sure how the Holy Trinity fits into this partially fleshed out theory. Time punishes and blesses everyone in term. It is the best all, end all. Time eventually takes us all. There is an aspect that would trouble many religious people though, that being worship. How would you worship time, my feeble mind sees worshipping an individual easier than a concept. I hadn’t worked out how that could work. I’m ironically running out of time and have to pause here but I wanted to deposit the idea in the universe while I had the chance. What do you think?
