The Nasty Party - Phase 2
This fabled tale is taking much longer to relate than previously suspected. I'm already into my third post and it might be another one or two before we reach the stunning conclusion. Where did we leave off? Ah yes, we pick up the story as we left the go-kart track. We crossed back into our province and headed for a prohibition era brew pub. To say that it was full hipster is a massive understatement. The brewing to be cool but also make money is fine, I can handle that but it hurts my soul when they don't know anything about the grains. Best we got was that "we get it from different suppliers" and "it's called a two row grain" arrrrggggghhhh! It's a two row malting barley, where is it produced, what kind of varieties are grown, etc. The details close to my heart! Strike one. The decor and general style and concept was actually the first strike but who's counting. We did the whole tour at this spot and learned some surprising things. I could tell the Beer Guy was chomping to ask questions. The tasting started and was about as expected. Our guide was knowledgeable about the finished products and guided us through the tasting masterfully. They had a 'white stout' called Tiger Milk that was pretty interesting. Tasted a lot like NesQuik but with booze! I bookended my experience with blondes to make sure I walked out without a nasty taste. We ignored the rules of the bus and opened a few beers to get us through to the next brewery, Tooth and Nail. We had a beer there and headed to the hotel. A makeshift meal and elevated drinking followed. Things had begun slowly and were slowly rising to a fun crescendo. I should point out that this meal of pizza and wings happened at dinner time which should leave you asking about lunch. There was no lunch. Admiral Bonesaw had grabbed two medium sized sacks of Doritos at the Dollar Store which helped to sustain us through the breweries. This lack of food helped to escalate things also. So heading into phase 3 everyone was feeling pretty fantastic. I skipped an element of phase 2 that fits better into the phase 3 chapter which will follow.
