Another Long, Sweaty One
I really thought I would end the lawn misery that the old woman next door is experiencing tonight. She makes a point of cutting her lawn every week and mine, that borders her's with no clear cut division remains shaggy and unattractive. I know that it's probably ripping up her guts to have to look out at that mess. I had planned to bring the mower home and cut it a couple of times to get it into shape. The same thing should be done with my hair but that's an issue for another time. I want to have a nice lawn but I went dredged up the old thoughts, the ones from last summer, the ideas I expressed about lawns and aesthetics last time. I decided I will cut it though, which kinda sucks. I also noticed that I haven't had to water my grass and she is doing it frequently, in May. She might not be as in tune with nature as I am. I know when it's going to rain and I cut my lawn before that happens so that it comes back nicely. I also feed my lawn a couple times a year so that it has all the nutrients it requires. I wouldn't want the poor fellow to starve. She also rolls her lawn every spring. I didn't know but apparently that is a thing that people do here. They roll it to level out any bumps or unevenness. I guess that is undesirable. In the process, they are compacting the soil under that grass. Roots don't grow as well in compacted soil, water doesn't drain as well in compacted soil. But what do I know, I've only mastered science in that area. So yeah, why didn't I cut it? I was too tired and sweaty from work. I had a couple of spray trials that Binky asked me to do that needed to get their juice so I had to hang around later than planned until the wind died off enough to comfortably spray them. I have to wear rubber pants and boots for this task, mostly for the company's liability but also to avoid exposure. We'll see what happens with what was sprayed in a week or two. I was there for an extra few hours, spraying and then cleaning everything up. We'll have some more stuff to spray today too, hopefully the thunderstorms hold off for 4-6 hours after we're done to allow the few milliliters of herbicide to do it's thing. Then it's on to the weekend, I'm thinking it will be a full one too! First in a long time.
