Super Sunday
It came, it went. I didn't follow the NFL much this year. I was busy most other days of the week and tried to make Sunday my sanctuary day. I wasn't about to use it all up watching Coronation Street and then switching to football for the afternoon and evening. Where would the crappy action movies fit in? Or the catch up on my precious shows? Let alone housework and yard work. So as a corollary, I was unable to give the man soaps the attention they sought. But I didn't shut them out completely. I knew enough of the happenings to be able to intelligently participate in any conversation about what was going on. I was aware of the major story lines and all the insight into why things happened. I could manage that without having watched any of the actual games. As I sit and write this, it dawns on me that the actual game mean very little today. It is more about the hype and sales and advertising that comes in. So me not watching the games isn't a big deal. That part of football has become unnecessary. We are a few short years away from a player demanding that his digital proxy replace him so he won't get hurt. Then the games can be simulated digitally. It wouldn't hurt the overall product as it sits. I don't know, maybe I'm just bitter from not being able to watch the good commercials. Not that I watched much of the game anyways. I couldn't outright boycott the coverage. I watched parts of the first and fourth quarter with a few check-ins. I played NHL2015 in the interim. I'm Canadian after all. I didn't spend my day preparing for the big game and building up the suspense. I just didn't care. I napped and read my book for the better part of the day and cooked for the rest. It was the kind of day I'd have every weekend if I was Ted Dibiase the Million Dollar Man. Because a million bucks at my age ain't enough no more, you have to work still. But the moral of the story is, it wasn't that super of Sunday for me. I still ate poorly and didn't do anything productive but if that is considered super then I have my share of super weekends. Hi yo!
