The United States of Monday

So I spent today trying to close off loose ends. I had to get people on the phone and confirm and deny all kinds of information. It was engaging and busy. Not as good as Friday but still. I guess that has become my default benchmark for how enjoyable work can be. We'll see if today can top it. Yesterday was a full productive day. Today will be more splintered as I travel into the Big Smoke to attend a regional business meeting. I don't really have any direct piece of this meeting but it is important for me to be there so I don't miss anything. I missed it last year to attend the Beer Guy and Frawnce's wedding in the Jamaican islands of Jamaica. Cheese was there, he will back up my story. So yes, I face my enemy today. The Smoke. I had a couple of Smoke related news stories cross my eyes yesterday. Both were upsetting, since that is all the news is anymore. A catchy tagline meant to draw you in and then a depressing or in this case completely fabricated news story. The first one was that Drake, the popular Degrassi actor turned pop star, had created a new song that just ripped into the city of Guelph, where I once lived. I have never liked nor disliked Drake. I'm neutral to him and his music. If it comes on I will change the channel but that is more of a genre problem than an individual problem. But when you come out unprovoked to take on my town then we have beef. But luckily for both of us, it was a fake news story. Because in today's world there isn't enough real news anymore so we are creating fake news stories and putting them on once reputable sites (cbc.ca) and letting the people decide. I've said it before, 'the people' are very stupid. The collective masses are not intelligent, they operate at the lowest common denominator most of the time. So that was a few hours of anger followed by a night of bewilderment. The second was not fake, it was Jays sluggers holding the team hostage for a big pay day. Two stars know that their run of fame is fleeting so they are trying to get paid before disappearing to whatever part of South America they hail from. It is sad and embarrassing. So bewildered and embarrassed now. I nipped off an episode of Ray Donovan season 3 and was confused by it also. It seemed to start mid-season to the point that I had to look it up to make sure I was actually watching episode 1. I'm not in the business of just watching the episodes in a random order and then trying to piece the plot together after the fact. She rolled in after that and we watched the X-Files season finale, add disappointed to the list now. So bewildered, embarrassed, confused and disappointed. Quite an evening to be sure. I had a great sleep and am now rested as well. So that is the state of things as I head into the much maligned Big Smoke. I hope I can make it out alive!
