Cheese and Two Glasses of Wine get Hitched
Well I had a pretty eventful weekend this go around. As the title would suggest, Cheese and Two Glasses of Wine are now married. Using the word hitched again would have obviously negated my idea of the suggestion. But back on point, I had the thrilling pleasure of acting as master of ceremony for the reception portion of the evening but more on that soon. I traveled with Buhold from the Harbour on Friday as we were both invited to the rehearsal dinner, he as best man, myself as emcee. We rehearsed which was very well organized compared to Beer Guy and Admiral Bonesaw's weddings. I learned that I was to offer up a toast to the newlyweds right after the ceremony and law down some ground rules for the guests. I decided to Improv it in the true Cheese fashion. We then found our way to an exquisite spot for an exquisite meal hosted by the groom's parents, as per tradition. We received most excellent gifts from the bride and groom as a token of their appreciation for our involvement in their special day. I received a very nice mug. It is a 3D Darth Vadar mug. I couldn't figure out how to link to it here and didn't want to try to learn at this point in the time. Just know that it is very awesome and was displayed for the weekend in a place of prominence in the hotel room. Cheese took that opportunity to reveal that he needed to crash with us to uphold tradition as well. We gladly obliged, and even had decent sleeps which is rare.
On Saturday morning I treated Cheese to an overpriced and odd breakfast at the hotel before we set off to the golf course. We played an executive par 3 course which was a neat change of pace. Cheese was bested by his father (Darth Vadar issue?) who also crushed the entire field. I will assume that I was next best after Cheese out of the 9 golfers. I have the scorecards to back it up too! We had an informal lunch at a local food court and returned to the hotel to get dressed and ready to go. I was asked to play the role of back up usher and in the end really didn't have to do any ushering. The ceremony itself was quite beautiful. I was watching all the bridal party like a hawk to see who would spill the tears. Three of four groomsmen did. Only saw two of four bridesmaids even wipe at their face. Maybe they hid it better? The vows were quiet but I heard most of it and it was quite lovely. They did an admirable job getting through them unscathed. I really enjoyed the ceremony from my seat in the very back. I am excited to see the photos when they make their rounds.
This was the part of the day that fell under my purview as the master of the ceremony. I opened with my toast after some uncertainty on the group photo. I mingled during the cocktail hour while photos occurred. And got people in position on time to have their dinner. My biggest and most prepared portion of the night was the introductions for the bridal parties. I enjoyed the mild anxiety of the bridesmaids when I revealed that Two Glasses had provided some dirt on them for me to play with. I wasn't mean in any way and got a couple of laughs. Big cheers and dancing for the bride and groom. It was pretty fantastic. Dinner didn't follow the tight timeline I was provided but I worked with the other supporting staff to keep the ship moving forward. In the end, the speeches and formal dances ended about 25 minutes later than planned but they were all excellent and dinner portion was punctuated with an epic lip sync battle that the bride definitely won.
It was at this point in the evening that formalities fell by the wayside and the informal fun took off. Dancing was a sweaty and vigorous affair that was not for the feint of heart. At the appointed hour the festivities moved to another part of the venue as planned. This was to comply with local by-laws but was actually very cool as the new room was unique and neat. The bartender, who could have won a John Oats look-a-like contest any day of the week kept us all well lubricated through the night and the DJ was exceptional. He was very capable at going with the flow of the night. There were many changes and additions to accommodate and he was on his game for all of them. At the conclusion of my time with the mic he gave me a wholehearted fist bump. It was pretty cool. There was a lot of pizza at this other venue as well which disappeared at an alarming rate. Buses intermittently returned guests to the hotel from the winery and ol' Tugboat was on the last one of the night. After a nightcap with the bridesmaids, Buhold and settled in for a great sleep. We had "brunch" with some other guests at a gastropub, it was pretty much just straight up lunch. Before that we were able to stop in and see the newlyweds as well.
I purposefully skipped over details because I'm tired and want to go to sleep so I will either edit this further tomorrow or simply fill in details in a future post. I could write a very detailed tome about the events that transpired but fear it would only be riveting for a select group of people. I will add that Cheese and I recorded a Conversation days before the wedding and I sat on it until today. There is also a video in the images section of the best man's rap he performed as part of this speech. It is impressive if not fully intact. Enjoy those other pages and I will fire back at you tomorrow, maybe.
