A Day Off II......in theory
Today I gave my students the day off, this was supposed to be their Sunday. Hell, it was supposed to be our Sunday. I thought with the rains forecasted and such that I could sneak an actual weekend in, a little off kilter but nonetheless. This was not to be. Things started out well enough, I was able to settle in and watch Game of Thrones and Silicon Valley and enjoy some time perusing the internet. I am trying to settle on whether I NEED to buy a PS4 or an Xbox ONE. So far I am leaning to the PS4, but that is not the topic at hand here. As I was doing that the phone started first, ringing insidiously often. Then it was the barrage of emails. So many people and their needless reply alls. If you've ever worked in a corporation, you know what I'm talking about. Then I signed into our corporate messenger to check if someone was at their desk and next thing I knew there were four people asking me how it was going etc. That is fine, I like to stay in touch but I was really just hoping to shut off my machine. Then the show-stopper, a corn plot needed to go in before the rains. It was scheduled for 3pm.
I went and got everything I needed to successfully conduct the plot and was killing time waiting for the "go" call and it never came. I called the guy and he said it was going to be more like 6pm since they had some issues with their equipment. This was awfully deflating news for the guy with the day off. I made lemonade though by returning home and cutting my grass and spreading some lawn food. The pending rains should wash it down into the root zone of the turf and things should be green and lean before I know it. But anyways, the plot went in around 7pm and only took around 37 minutes, this is very fast. With the rain bearing down on us, we all were in full hustle mode. So I come back home, before dark and I don't know what to do with myself now. Not enough time to start anything of consequence, too much time to simply waste. I'd go for a walk but it's raining and I've achieved my step goal...again. I think I will go tidy something. Not clean, just tidy up. That should take a few minutes. I hope I don't get carried away and start a full blown project. Maybe it's safer to just play Freecell. Classic first world dilemma.
