The Lost Long Weekend
Well, Monday has rolled around. It's here, there was no stopping it. Monday has landed. Take a second and imagine Monday being as inevitable as He-man overcoming Skeletor. As kid you never really understood, never fully grasped that it was going to happen no matter what. Maybe you even secretly rooted for Skeletor. Probably not, he was a such a stupid and heinous character. He did have some good plans though, from time to time, old Skeletor stumbled on a good one. But through luck and supposedly "goodness" He-man always pulled it out. Just like Monday. I wonder what it was like for Skeletor, if he suffered from depression, if he would go home thwarted and drink for a week or two, coming up with crazy schemes in the meantime. His henchmen trying to keep it together, looking at their fallen leader for inspiration, only to be scared and dismayed by his reckless and erratic behaviour. Willing him to pull something together, no fear of any real danger in the consequences. Also, in that vein, shouldn't there have been repercussions for all his villainy? He continually tries to take over the world and kidnaps countless people. Shouldn't the authorities step in? Picture several cops showing up to Snake Mountain to exercise a search warrant, maybe with a detective. He'd probably temporarily knock them out with some spell and have them driven to a bog somewhere. Maybe he's killed a few and they don't mess with him. More likely is that in Eternia there are no police, only He-man and his band of friends. They seem to be the ultimate authority anyways. There are guards around the palace but they are as inept as they are frightfully jacked. Actually, everyone is crazy in shape, not in shape actually, like full-on body builders. Even King Randor who is assuredly at least in his mid-50's looks like the Arnold in his prime. Probably serious 'roids in the water in Eternia. Aw well, Mondays, am I right?
The moral of the story is, I didn't get as much done this weekend as I secretly hoped; but I am building a daunting to-do list for around the house here. I'm going to have to step it up to get through it all. Just like He-man steps up every time there is danger in Eternia. He simply has to do it, and so do I.
